Sports Therapy

What is sports therapy and sport rehabilitation?

Sports therapy is a specialised form of healthcare that focuses on the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries related to sports and physical activity. Sports therapists are trained to work with athletes of all levels and ages, as well as individuals who engage in physical activity or have suffered a musculoskeletal injury.

During your sports therapy appointment, your therapist will typically perform an initial assessment to evaluate your condition and develop a customised treatment plan. This may include manual therapy, exercise prescription, and other techniques to help alleviate your symptoms and improve your overall function.

Sports therapy appointments can be helpful for a range of conditions, from acute injuries like sprains and strains to chronic issues like back pain and repetitive strain injuries. They may also be useful for injury prevention and performance enhancement, helping athletes and active individuals stay healthy and perform at their best. Overall, you can expect your sports therapy appointment to be a collaborative process where the therapist works with you to achieve your goals and improve your overall physical health and well-being.

What to expect from your home Sports Therapy Appointment

Subjective Assessment

This is where yourself and your therapist will have a conversation discussing what is causing your pain. Questions such as how and when it first occurred, what makes it easier/worse, and how symptoms you have are the type of things you are likely to be asked. This is a very important part of the appointment and will help create an idea of what is causing you pain.

Objective Assessment

Your therapist will go through some medical tests to find which structures are injured and causing you your discomfort. These tests will depending on the findings from the subjective assessment.

Treatment

The treatment in your appointment will be specific to your injury and your individual needs. This could include soft tissue therapy, stretching, loading, movement and biomechanical education, kinesiology taping and small mobilisations.

Rehabilitation

We’re strong believers in loading muscles and getting our clients stronger to help prevent injuries from reoccurring, as well as getting you pain free in movement and what you want to be doing - not just pain free when you’re not doing anything. With our clients we give a few exercises at a time that are specific to your injury and your individual needs and goals.
