Why have a sports massage?

Benefits of sports massage:

There are a number of physiological advantages of having a sports massage, such as:

  • Pain relief – If you’re feeling pain in a certain area, certain massage techniques could be used to help reduce this through the release of endorphins in the body.

  • Scar tissue break down – Sports Massage techniques can work to break down this scar tissue, which can be created at the site of previous injury. This can potentially affect the ability of muscles and tendons to load efficiently, and therefore increases the risk of injury in the area.

  • Increased blood flow – Similarly to during exercise, blood flow circulation is enhanced in the area that is having the sports massage.

  • Increase in flexibility – During a sports massage, muscles can change structure, potentially expanding and stretching, allowing for more flexibility and allowing for possible mobility improvements.

What to expect from your sports massage

1. Assessment: Your therapist will ask you about your physical activity and any areas of discomfort or pain you may be experiencing. They may also perform a physical assessment to evaluate your range of motion, flexibility, and any areas of tension.

2. Treatment: Your therapist will use various massage techniques to help alleviate any tension or soreness in your muscles. These may include deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, stretching, and compression.

3. Communication: Throughout the massage, your therapist will check in with you to ensure that the pressure and techniques being used are comfortable and effective. It's important to communicate any discomfort or pain you may be experiencing so that your therapist can adjust their approach accordingly.

4. Aftercare: After the massage, your therapist may provide you with some stretches or exercises to help you maintain the benefits of the massage and prevent future injuries.

Our sports massage appointments can be booked as individual 1 hour appointments, or a block of 4 x 1 hour appointments at a discounted rate. Your therapist will come to you with all the necessary equipment, meaning you don’t even have to step out the door to receive clinic style treatment!
